PATRICK NEWMAN, Ph.D.
Patrick Newman received his PhD in 1976. His early career was in
community mental health in Salida, Colorado where he was a
clinician and administrator. In 1980 he returned to his home
town and the University of Tulsa where he taught graduate
courses in application and theory of personal growth and
transformation. Since 1982 he has maintained a full time private
practice in psychology working with individuals, couples, and
young adults.
Patrick has continued to teach and lead groups throughout his
career. He has a knack for making complex subjects accessible
and understandable. In addition to psychology and psychotherapy,
Patrick is conversant in poetry, classical literature, and
spiritual traditions. He weaves the healing power of myth, metaphor,
poetry, and storytelling into all aspects of his work. Patrick
sees his calling as helping transform obstacles into
opportunities for growth. He consistently invites himself and
others to encounter the growth edge between whom we are and who
we are becoming. His ability to listen is the source of his
skill in facilitating groups, teaching, and individual
psychotherapy. He continually strives to hear what is truly
going on within himself, others, and the deeper conversation.
You will find Patrick’s approach soulful and transformative,
challenging you to explore new ways of seeing, being, and
living.
Pat’s passions are his family, the natural world, running,
reading, poetry, and living life as a journey. He and his wife
Jane facilitate groups together and are most proud of their 36
year collaboration as partners in marriage, parenting, and
participation in the larger community.
